Letting go of judgement
Front of mind for me today – is ‘judgment’ let’s talk about this. The Bible says “Do not judge, or you too will be judged”. It’s something that I’ve really been bringing awareness to. It keeps on coming up for other coaches that I work with as well.
The question here is “How can we bring so much love to an environment where we just let go of all previous judgments that we have on someone?” It could be someone from a previous organisation, that we know in a different capacity, any previous experience or even a previous life.
I’ve seen powerful coaching which creates real impact and lasting change is when I can really let go of whatever was there for me in the past and just accept that person as they are in the present moment. I really want to create more awareness around this, not only for the coaches I work with, but for myself as well.
I genuinely believe that if you want to let go of judgement in the coaching environment, there’s a couple of things you can do. One is bringing greater awareness to it. Before stepping into a coaching session with anyone, ask yourself, “Am I holding anything against this person?” This is the first step. Keep thinking along the lines of how you can bring more awareness in your coaching.
The second thing that you can do is to write a letter. This is a tool that I’ve really found powerful in my life. I write letters to myself to help me release things. It’s been a very effective tool.
Write a letter to yourself and consciously include, ‘I’m holding a judgement against this person.’ Write your experience, perceptions and whatever the context of the situation is putting is as much detail as you want.
After finishing, I generally tend to read the letter out (sometimes a number of times) and burn it. Let it go. I have had huge energetic shifts from doing this. If you have a similar experience as well, I’d love to hear about it – let me know how you get on if you give it a go!
